Before a packed joint session of the Mississippi legislature, Chief Justice William Waller, Junior administered the oath of office to new State Treasurer Lynn Fitch on Thursday, January 5, 2012. Fitch is the first Republican woman to ever hold the position and was sworn in as the 54th Treasurer of the State of Mississippi.

Fitch stood on the podium with her three children John Tucker, Marye Will (who held the Bible), and Mackenzie Burns and son-in-law Drew Burns. Her father, William "Bill" Fitch watched from the House floor along with dozens of other family members and close friends.

Talking with supporters afterwards, Fitch expressed her gratitude for the prayers, encouragement and contributions of those who helped her during the campaign. She said she looks forward to working closely with Governor Phil Bryant, Lt. Governor Tate Reeves and the newly elected legislature. Fitch believes the state is going to make great strides the next four years.
